During these days, there has been a hot issue widely spread in Taiwan. Yeah, it’s about the pork with Ractopamine . And in this case, it also created another pop slang which means the officers barge into people's home on false pretences. It is 你被查水表了嗎?查means to examine , to check , and水表 is the water meter.
Actually ,The original meaning of "checking the water meter" refers to the water company personnel entering the people's homes to check the water consumption. But now it transfers to another meaning which means someone to get picked on by the government officers.
According to the recent news, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) to report clinical psychiatrist Su Wei-shuo (蘇偉碩) to the police over what the ministry said are "false rumors" about ractopamine .
MOHW Deputy Minister Hsueh Jui-yuan (薛瑞元) told reporters that Su had repeatedly spread false rumors about ractopamine, including that it causes autism and can be found in the air and soil. Hsueh said that spreading such rumors without evidence will cause public panic and damage the reputation of importers.
While the 51-year-old doctor thinks that the matter of ractopamine residue in pork is a public issue and people have the right to express views that are contrary to those of the government, about the impact on human health of meat containing the controversial animal feed additive ractopamine.
Some people in Taiwan think the move from Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) as violating the Constitution by suppressing freedom of speech. That’s why in Taiwan, we often say你被查水表了嗎? to describe someone getting a hard time from the authority figure.
